3rd View of Godly
Lifestyles

In doing research on the Chamorro culture, I stumbled across a site
stating their beliefs. What intrigues me is that in all cases writers share
the “what’s” of their thoughts and opinions for changes but nowhere do
I find the explanations on how to bring about these changes. Independence
from America is being sought, but again, how does one plan on accomplishing
this great task?

It is a fact that Guam is experiencing socio-economic struggles. Medical patients having
to travel off-island for medical attention is on the rise. Cancer appears to be a growing medical problem among Guamanians. Domestic violence, social violence, and drug use headline the local newspaper and the Internet. The exodus of families to the United
States seeking to support their livelihood is also on the rise.

It is not coincidental that Magellan found his way to our island. 1521 A.D. was the year
when his ship docked at Umatac Bay. It was the same year of the Great Reformation of
the church. It was the year when Martin Luther, a devout Catholic monk, nailed his thesis
on the door of the church in Rome. Having read the Book of Romans given to him by a
fellow monk, Martin Luther learned that there were grave errors within the teachings of
the Roman church. He protested and Protestantism was born.

Mañe’luhu…God came to Guam. Unfortunately, Catholicism rooted itself deeply into the culture and thus the truth of God’s word reached not the ears and the hearts of the people even to this day. He is knocking at the door of our hearts. We need to allow His spirit to minister to ours. We are living in what the Bible calls, “The last days.” We need to wake
up to this truth and align our spiritual lives to God. Let us not waste time trying to renovate that, which has little significance to the island’s spiritual health. The people need to turn
to God…not to cultural activists.
