The Meaning of Blood
Sacrifice (...con't.)
If you could, for one moment, put on your thinking cap
and put flesh
and
blood into the drama of the lamb slain.
Imagine the horrible sight
it must have
been for Adam
and Eve to witness God slay the young lamb
and to see
life one
moment and death the next. Keep in mind
that death
did not exist until that day.
Do you think
that it was not traumatic to the
onlookers?
It is not difficult to believe that God taught this lesson
to Adam and Eve so they
can pass it on to generations
to come. Imagine Adam calling Cain and Abel to
witness the
shedding of blood, and death and explaining the meaning of it;
that it
served the purpose to further explain salvation.
The Day of Sacrifice
“…And it came to pass that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. In addition, Abel brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and his offering.”
God did not respect Cain’s offering, which caused Cain to be “…very wroth.”
Moreover, his countenance fell. It was absolute disobedience on Cain’s part
to produce the sacrifice from the soil and from his toils. He probably thought
that the hard work in farming is what pleases God when indeed; God was
looking for “no works,” just obedience. Abel did not prove his part in this
sacrifice; it was purely, obedience.
