Problems in our Island

In reading articles online from PDN and KUAM, it is beginning to make
me realize that most, if not all articles, pertain to the inner problems that
our island is facing. Alcohol abuse and drunk driving, automobile accidents,
sexual abuses, robberies, familial problems, political corruptions, dreadful
conditions of the educational system, drug abuse, (and the list can go on and on),
are dangerously embedded on our island. Why?

Alcoholism is infused into our culture. Is it because alcoholic beverages are delicious or is
it a way to numb truth? Are accidents increasing because there are too many automobiles on the road or could alcohol abuse while driving be the cause? Or, could it be all of the above?

How about sexual abuses? It appears to happen within a household. Fathers, uncles, and cousins are being reported as sex offenders.

What about robberies…why has thievery grown in our island? Could it be because thieves are unemployed and need to buy food to take care of their hunger? Or…could it be for illegal drugs? It appears that thievery is not being committed in banks or other larger moneymaking businesses; victims are small businesses and purse carriers. A common sense scream is…
IT’S FOR DRUGS!

What is going on with our culture? Beatings and other physical abuses are on the rise. Where is LOVE? It is in the stomachs and not in the hearts; in the thoughts, and not in the souls. Most do not practice agape love; the kind of love Jesus taught which says, “Love your enemy.”
